Sleep Disorders
A sleep disorder is a medical condition that affects your sleep patterns. Some sleep disorders are severe enough to interfere with normal daily functioning, health, and quality of life.

Some of the most common conditions we treat are below.

Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea is a breathing disorder in which the airway becomes restricted – leading to limited breathing or stoppages of breathing during sleep. When the brain recognizes lack of oxygen, it causes the individual to suddenly wake from sleep to allow normal breathing to resume. This can occur hundreds of times each night and can go unnoticed to the sleeper.

Insomnia
Insomnia is typically thought of as simply the difficulty or inability to fall asleep, but it also includes difficulty staying asleep, waking up too early, and a non-refreshing sleep. People suffering from insomnia may experience daytime sleepiness, fatigue, irritability, and concentration difficulties. Nearly 30% of adults experience symptoms of insomnia.

Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy, also known as “sleep attacks,” is a condition in which a person is overcome by an involuntary powerful urge to sleep suddenly sleep in non-sleep situations (work, driving, socializing). This can take effect very quickly. Because of the dangerous nature of this disorder it is extremely important to seek medical attention.

Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)
Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is characterized by itching, burning, or crawling sensation up and down the legs when attempting to sleep. Individuals find relief by continually moving or rubbing legs. Individuals with restless legs find sitting or lying still extremely difficult, which affects their ability to fall asleep.

REM Sleep Behavior Disorders
REM Sleep Behavior Disorders are conditions in which people engage in undesired and involuntary actions during sleep. This often comes in the form of acting out dreams, with things like jumping, kicking, shouting, screaming, flailing, grabbing. This disorder is similar to sleep walking and sleep talking.
